    'The allure of travel guides'

    Travel literature and maps through the ages

    Travel guides played a significant role in the development of tourism. The exhibition explores the evolution of travel literature, from the scientific treatises of the Enlightenment era, through the subjective narratives of renowned writers such as Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Mark Twain, Guy de Maupassant and others, to the rationally structured travel guides of Baedeker or Murray and modern electronic applications.
